Junior Suite Upgrade

Yes, you don’t have lying eyes.  We are back at the same hotel as 4 nights ago, the Le Meridien Noumea.  The Betico II arrived in Noumea at 7:30PM.  The ride was much smoother and not a passenger got sick.  We were relieved about that.

We had the Le Meridien Noumea arrange for us a private ride from the Betico port to the hotel given ti is about a 8km ride and cost the same as a taxi, around $20USD.

When we arrived at the hotel it was packed with events.  In the lobby was an art exhibition with live jazz band.  Coming from one of the ballrooms down the stairs was loud pop music.  There were people dressed in costume everywhere.

I asked the reception what was going on and they told us that a bank was having their annual party at the ballroom downstairs.  We were amongst the only folks in the lobby dressed in “civilian” clothes.

The lobby including some French bankers wearing kitty-cat face-paint in the bottom right.

We were upgraded again to the same exact room as last time, rooms 551/549 Junior Suite.  Again another deal given our 4,000 SPG + $60 cash copayment rate.  We were given complimentary breakfast which we would actually take at the hotel restaurant buffet instead of to-go like last time we were here.

The room was again very clean and comfortable with great views of the ocean and mountains from our balcony.  On this stay, the University of Georgia bulldogs were taking on the Lousiana State Tigers in a pivotal conference match of American football.  So I was up at 6:30AM to watch the game.  Sadly the hotel TVs date back to the Clinton administration so I watched on the laptop instead of these TVs.  Georgia was victorious, 44 – 41 in a thriller of a game.

Free desserts sent up by management to our room to welcome us as repeat Starwood Platinum guests.
The breakfast buffet was very crowded and had a great selection of breads, meats, fruits, and dairy products.
The breakfast buffet at Le Meridien Noumea continued.

We had pre-arranged a shared shuttle transfer back to Noumea airport the following day for 9AM.  The ride took about an hour and by 10:15AM we were at the check-in desks at Noumea airport.  We were heading to Australia, firstly Melbourne by way of Sydney.

New Caledonia was an incredible place to visit.  I am really glad we made it there.  It is amazing how much Noumea feels like a small to mid sized French city even though it is in the South Pacific.  The French culture is immutable no matter where in the world you are.  Ile Des Pins was truly an amazing paradise.  How privileged were we to spend 5 days in this amazing place!
